Who Can Join and How

Who can join the Association, and what's the process

Who...

Membership in the Association is either as a Full (voting) Member or Associate.

  • Ordinary and Life (Full) Members: is a member entitled to vote due to service with the Big Blue One (1 RAR) in peace or war or who has been a member of another corps/unit but assigned to a '1 RAR Battalion Group' on operations (eg. Somalia, East Timor or Afghanistan).
    • Full Membership. Entitled to vote
    • Life Membership. Entitled to vote. This was a practice years ago but has been discontinued.
    • Honorary Life Membership: Entitled to vote. Has served above and beyond the call of duty for the Association and has been recognised by the membership at an AGM as deserving of Honorary membership. Free membership for Life. Recommendations to the National Executive and approved by President on the recommendation of National Committee. Free membership for Life.
  • Associate Members: an individual under the constitution is not entitled to full voting membership as they have not served in or with the Battalion on operations but is considered a "good friend" of the Association and is approved by the National Committee. Any ordinary member may nominate an Associate and explain why they believe the potential Associate member should be entitled to join us. 
    • Associate Membership. Non-voting.
    • Associate Life Membership. This was a practice years ago but has been discontinued.
    • Associate Honorary Life Membership. Not entitled to vote. Has served above and beyond the call of duty for the Association and has been recognised by the membership at an AGM as deserving of Honorary membership. Free membership for Life.
    • Currently Serving Member on the Establishment of 1 RAR: Belongs to the Association at no cost (and no vote) while a member of 1RAR. The list of current members is refreshed in February each year by RSM 1RAR to remove those who have been posted out. Once posted out, these members can remain members of the Association as Ordinary Members upon paying a subscription as an Ordinary Member with full voting rights.

What's the Process...

Pretty simple! This is what you've got to do when you click here:

  1. Complete the application online. * indicates mandatory fields.
  2. 'Submit' after acknowledging the Terms.
  3. Note the Invoice Number for payment.
  4. An email advising approval to join is received (or you get an email with Log-In details providing immediate access to the Association SITREP Section, or both)
  5. Deposit the membership fee into the 1 RAR Defence Bank account details provided on the invoice. The Reference field is to include the first three letters of surname and the invoice number. (ie MR123)
  6. When payment is confirmed, a receipt will be sent by email.
