I have just been informed by his brother (Mick) that Frank Carroll, late of Summerland Point NSW, passed away at 11.00 am, yesterday, 26 Feb 2019, in the Wyong Hospital. There was no "particular reason" for his death. According to Mick, "his body just gave up".
Mick was by his side all the way through and was able to tell Frank that we were all cheering for him.
Frank ("Sandbags") was my Platoon Sergeant in 1RAR (SVN 1968/69) and, according to all of us in 5 Pl, he was the "best sergeant in the world". Besides that, he was one of the finest gentleman I have ever known. The world is a poorer place with his departure.
Mick will advise me of funeral details in due course. In the meantime, I'm just going to find a quiet place and have a good cry.
